Free Relationship Position Check

Which direction is your relationship moving?

A marriage can look stable from the outside while the experience inside it is changing.

Relationship Position  Assessment is a quick way to examine the current direction of mutual investment and responsiveness in your marriage.

It is not a diagnosis of your marriage. It is one lens — a starting point for seeing the pattern more clearly.

What Relationship Position Looks At

Not whether your marriage is “good” or “bad.” The direction it is moving.

Relationship Position looks at two broad questions:

Mutual Investment

Are both people actively investing attention, effort, responsiveness, and care into the relationship?

Relational Direction

Does the relationship feel as though you are generally moving toward one another, holding steady, drifting apart, or actively diverging?

The Four Relationship Positions

A simple picture of relational direction.

Your responses place the relationship into one of four broad positions. These are descriptive, not permanent labels.

P1

Mutual Progress

Both partners actively investing and moving toward connection.

p2

One Partner Stationary

One person invested. One person still. A pattern worth recognizing early.

p3

Quiet Drift

One partner gradually moving away — no explosion, no single moment.

p4

Active Divergence

The relationship may be showing a more pronounced pattern of moving apart rather than toward one another.

Position informs the prescription. It does not define the marriage. Your Relationship Position is one diagnostic lens that can help you ask better questions about what is happening now.

What This Check Can — and Cannot — Tell You

A useful starting point, not a marriage grade.

It can help you notice:

It does not tell you:

Public Check vs. Private Marriage Profile

They are not the same assessment.

Relationship Position Check

Public · Free · 10 questions
A quick look at mutual investment and relational direction. Designed as an accessible starting point for anyone visiting School of Wife.

SOW Marriage Profile

Private · Enrolled students only
A broader educational profile used inside the School of Wife program across six dimensions of married life. Students complete it privately at baseline and again later in the year to reflect on what they are learning.

The private Marriage Profile is not published as a public quiz and does not produce an overall marriage grade, percentile, or cohort ranking.

How It Works

Five minutes can give you a useful place to begin.

Your responses place the relationship into one of four broad positions. These are descriptive, not permanent labels.

STEP 1

Answer 10 questions

Respond based on the marriage you are actually living now, not the one you hope to have.

STEP 3

Use it as a starting question

Your result gives you language for thinking more carefully about the direction of the relationship.

Important Scope

This is educational, not clinical.

The Relationship Position Check is a proprietary School of Wife educational tool. It is not a clinically validated diagnostic instrument, mental-health assessment, abuse screen, or substitute for professional care.

If abuse, coercive control, trauma, serious betrayal, or another clinical concern is the primary issue, specialized professional support may be more appropriate than a public marriage quiz.
