What Relationship Position Looks At
Not whether your marriage is “good” or “bad.” The direction it is moving.
Relationship Position looks at two broad questions:
Mutual Investment
Are both people actively investing attention, effort, responsiveness, and care into the relationship?
Relational Direction
Does the relationship feel as though you are generally moving toward one another, holding steady, drifting apart, or actively diverging?
The Four Relationship Positions

What This Check Can — and Cannot — Tell You
A useful starting point, not a marriage grade.
It can help you notice:
- Whether relational effort feels mutual or uneven.
- Whether the relationship seems to be moving toward connection or away from it.
- Whether your current experience suggests questions worth exploring more carefully.
It does not tell you:
- Whether your marriage is healthy in every dimension.
- Who is “the problem.”
- Whether you should stay married or leave.
- What another adult will choose to do.
